05/12/2008 -- When will the stoneflies fly?
That is always the question of the spring...Stay tuned for our stonefly webpage with current reports and blogs. In the meantime, place your wages...and I'd bet later than sooner (if I was a betting man).
05/03/2008 -- East Portal high and tough to fish
The East Portal opened but the water is very high and pretty dirty (greenish brown with about 6" visibility). Stay tuned for more reports and call us for daily updates.
04/28/2008 -- EAST PORTAL OPEN
FINALLY, the East Portal Road is open. Flows are high and water is Gunnison Green, so be prepared and do not plan on crossing the river. Road going up to the dam is still closed to vehicle traffic but you can hike up. Have Fun!
04/21/2008 -- East Portal still closed
The East Portal remains closed, but warmer, dryer weather should help. It sounds like the road won't open until the damaged section of the road is repaired so stay tuned. Give us a call for fishing options!
04/09/2008 -- EAST PORTAL ROAD STILL CLOSED
DUE TO THE WET WEATHER AND ROCKSLIDES (SEE SIDEBAR PICTURE), THE EAST PORTAL ROAD WILL NOT OPEN FOR SOME TIME. Stay tuned, we'll let you know when they open it. Also the flows on the Gunny will be going up to 2350 by next week.
04/07/2008 -- Gunnison settling down
After flows came up, the river picked up some sediment on the edges, but should settle down soon and clear up. BWO's are everywhere so when it clears it should be awesome. Keep an eye on it or call us for an update.
03/31/2008 -- Flows back up...
Gunnisons flows are back up around 2100 cfs. April should be a great month to fish BWO's on the Gunnison. If you want to travel farther, try the Roaring Fork. Call us for advice.
03/24/2008 -- Flows to stay low thru the 27th...
Gunnison River flows should stay around 350cfs until the 27th of March. Good fishing in the canyon with SJ worm, Hare's Ear, Wooly Bugger, Midges and BWO emergers and some drys. Get out and enjoy the weather and low water (while we have it)
03/20/2008 -- More Gunnison flow details...
Due to survey work on the dams, releases will be around 350 cfs possibly thru the 27th of March, at which time they will step back up to the 2000 CFS range,or more. The fishing is really good right now!! Please call us with any questions.
03/10/2008 -- Gunnison Update
The Sonar mapping at Crystal Dam was succesffully completed. Flows will increase to over 2000cfs by mid this week (12th or 13th). Flows will then begin to ramp down late in the week in preparation for the dive inspection at Crystal beginning March 18th. Flows should remain around 350cfs through March 28th to accommodate further maintenance at Blue Mesa Dam. That's it for now. Why not go fish?
