Pleasure Park Area Fishing Again
Just got off the phone with Al DeGrange of Gunnison River Expeditions. He reported that the inner gorge from Chukar to the Smith Fork is only slightly off color from the massive flash flood that went thru 6 days ago. He also reported that the Gunnison from Smith Fork down to Pleasure Park has about 3-4 feet of visibility and is clearing fast. Trips that went through yesterday had good results from the Smith Fork down. The North Fork itself is just slightly off color, so the lower Gunnison should be fishing well.

Stream Clarity and Fishing Improving
The past week's rains have been more of a nuisance than the blowouts that happened 2 weeks ago. The San Miguel has been murky in the mornings, but clears up by noon which has also been true in the Cimarron country. Pa-Co's flows are still a bit high at 350 cfs, and has been a bit off color, but fishing is great due to the recent rainbow stocking. The East Portal has been a tough act lately, but the most success seems to be fishing small Juju Baetis or dark RS2's in the riffles. The best news is that fall fishing will come. Just not soon enough.

Monsoons are here, wish you were beautiful.
The daily monsoon rains we have been experiencing have made it difficult to find clear water to fish. To save you long drives only to find a blown out stream, start checking the stream flow graphs for the local rivers and streams on our website or go to:
http://www.dwr.state.co.us/SurfaceWater/data/division.aspx?div=4
Select the gauge monitor on your stream or on a nearby drainage and check the cfs graph for the past 24 hours. If the graph shows a steep spike during that time, go somewhere else until things settle down. If the graph shows a small spike, you can probably go there early the next morning and find fishable water, even if it is slightly off color. Remember that as frustrating as this pattern is for fishing, it really helps keep stream flows up and water temps down.

Summer Fishing is ON!!!
All streams in the area are at peak summer conditions in terms of flows, clarity and fish eager to feed on the surface. Now is the time to break out the attractor dries and beadhead droppers when fishing the smaller rivers and streams, especially in the high country. Hoppers are beginning to happen on the Gunnison, especially from the Smith Fork to Pleasure Park. That game should really kick in starting next week.
1-3 day Launch dates for floating the Gunnison Gorge with Gunnison River Expeditions are available from now until October. Even though the Stonefly hatch is done, the canyon is still a great place float and fish. Call us with your desired launch date and we'll get you and your group on the river

Last Chance
OK, maybe you missed it and you're moping around. Lace up your boots, grab a gallon of water and get down the butt kicker trails in the BC National Park for some Epic fishing in the Warner region. Look for flyers and other big bugs to make it up stream as far as the lower reaches of the East Portal by the 4th.

IT IS ON!!!!!!
Adult stones are flying from the Pleasure Park upstream past Chukar along with clouds of Yellow Sallies. Caddis patterns are working well early and late. Head down any of the trails and be envious of those who drew Red Rocks permits this week.

Some Great Fishing with Adult Stones
Reports are coming in from walk waders and float trips alike, as the lower Gunny, and even Lower Ute park are finally getting more takers on the Adult stone flies, as the egg laying females are taking their precious cargo to the water to release it. Slurp, Gulp!

It's ON--Stone Fly Hatch 2010 !!
Finally, what you've been waiting for. The bugs emerged this weekend on the lower gunnison, and while there are Stones in the air, they are not yet available to trout. Fish are pretty full of nymphs, so despite what you want to fish, if it's not working, better switch to caddis or pmds if you want something on top right now.

Stones on the move
With the flows dropping to 650cfs the temperatures have jumped quickly to the 52

EAST PORTAL OPENS
Drop what you're doing, the East Portal is now open! As other rivers are blowing out daily, the portal is a welcome respite of open clear water. How long it will stay clear before coloring up. Hard to say. Enjoy it while you can!
