Meeting Place--When in Montrose: Cimarron Creek Fly Shop

Meet at 6:30AM at Cimarron Creek Fly Shop where you'll meet your trip guides and be able to pick up any last minute items like flies, tippet, rod, reel, wader and boot rentals and Colorado licenses. . There is easy paking around the back of the store, or park in front and come on in.

(if you just need a license and the shop is not open, try City Market is open 24 hours a day.)

After leaving the store you will be transported by 4WD vehicle to the Chukar trailhead in the Gunnison Gorge. The drive into the Gorge takes approximately 45 minutes, at which point you will grab your gear and your backpack or dufflebag and hike down the Chukar Trail to the "put-in" on the river. The trial is 1 mile, dropping 560 feet, and should take 20-30 minutes. Once at the river your gear will be repacked in waterproof duffles for a waterproof journey downstream.

Your float will end at the Gunnison Forks/Pleasure Park late in the afternoon. Your car will have been parked at river level and will require no further hiking to reach. We may need to arrange to have your vehicle shuttled to the "take-out" site. There is an additional fee for this shuttle of $30.
